For women veterans who need help and those who want to help them
Founded by women veterans, WOVIN educates, advocates, and increases public awareness of the increasing number of at-risk, homeless and under-served women veterans and helps those women seeking information to support themselves and their families.
Women veterans are the fastest-growing homeless population, with a quarter having children. Their challenges are often overwhelming and complex. Due to their military experiences, some female veterans distrust military channels, so they avoid turning to the VA or other military support services. WOVIN exists in part to bridge the trust gap and assist women in obtaining the benefits they deserve.
Many female veterans don’t regard themselves as veterans as they did not feel integrated into the armed forces or did not serve in active war zones. As such, it takes some convincing to explain that if they served, they are a veteran.
WOVEN tailors its core services to meet the specific needs of women veterans, which often differ from those of their male counterparts.
WOVIN Wisconsin is a Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative. See their website to donate or to volunteer.
